    My 4 month old Australorp is acting weird today. She's not eating - even treats. She is usually my feistiest hen and today she is just lethargic. I'm not sure what to do and I'm worried. Help!

    Our first egg was fine. Nice shell but I haven't cracked it open yet. I think it might have come as a surprise to her ;)

    Why does my hen "tense up" when I go to pick it up?

    One of my girls does this too. She's the skittish one. But she tenses and squats down. It makes it easier for me to picker her up and hold her though. Once she's in my lap she relaxes and is very calm.

    Ours were hatched that week too! I wasn't expecting eggs for awhile yet. But one girl has a very developed comb, far bigger and redder than the others, so suspect it was from her and she's just an early developer.

    Three of my 4 girls flew out of my yard today. Two were on top of the fence and one in my neighbors yard. I can't have this for their own safty. So tonight I'm going to clip one wing on each bird. I've read up on how to do it, but I'm worried they will have trouble getting to their perch now...

    Help with our understairs run, please

    I'm in an area where we get some really cold days, I've read sand isn't great in the cold and wet. Would trying paving stones on part and sod on another part work? They will get out in the grass of the main yard regularly.
