My 4 day old Black Australorps have white feathers coming in on their wings. I'm a newbie so this seems weird to me and has me wondering if I have a different breed.

Thoughts?

My Australorps are now 5 weeks old and they all started out with white feathers like that. I didn't expect it either, but there you go. One or two may be roos and we are waiting to see.

It does look like an Australorp to me. I can't remember if the wing feathers on mine were white when they were young (does that tell you it's time for more chicks?

). I've noticed that mine really only turn pure black once their adult feathers grow in.

I got 3 black Australorps chicks last Tuesday and two have black tipped wings and one has white tipped. They are supposed to be pullets but time will tell.

Most black chicks (like Black Cochins and Australorps) start out by growing white feathers in on their wings. Those feathers molt out into black feathers eventually.

Wyandottes7 is right. Black Australorps can have permanent white feathers, which is usually a disqualification in showing by The American Standard of Perfection.
