Well, I'd resigned myself. Ms Gypsy at 13 months stopped laying (end of last June). Nothing wrong with her. Couldn't find any evidence of eggs being eaten or hidden. She's an EE and had been my last hen to lay but most consistent 5-6 eggs / week. I had switched to a different brand of layer...

Rooster showed up with wild turkey hen flock, now what do I do?

second day crowing around noon. ran out to see what was up - he was in the coop with all the ladies. nothing untoward ... he needs to quit that or he needs to be re-homed, because it's only a matter of time before my neighbor complains :(

Rooster showed up with wild turkey hen flock, now what do I do?

Thank you. We are now facing an issue: he found his voice! He just cockadoodledoo'd loudly and for several minutes. So much for being on the down low! There was nothing threatening the flock. Not sure why he did that (obviously I know very little about Roos ... I have a neighbor who is nosy and...

Rooster showed up with wild turkey hen flock, now what do I do?

Update on Odysseus. He's fully integrated with the flock and seems to be thriving. Thank you for all your help and suggestions. The better use of vertical space really made all the difference, Mrs. K., you were right on the money! Thanks again!

Rooster showed up with wild turkey hen flock, now what do I do?

so this is bizarre. tonight i went out and he didn't go into the coop - he was roosting on top of his crate as far away from the coop as he could get. He wasn't happy when I picked him up and put him in the coop. I checked 30 minutes later and he was sitting on the floor in the same spot, while...

Rooster showed up with wild turkey hen flock, now what do I do?

update: So Ody has been spending his days in the dog crate in the run and nights in the coop. Gypsy (low gal in pecking order) is merciless when given a chance to peck him. Something must have happened over the past couple nights because yesterday Marigold (head hen) ignored him and let him...

Rooster showed up with wild turkey hen flock, now what do I do?

After spending the night with the ladies in the coop, he was very reluctant to join them in the run. When he finally did, they stayed away from him. There is more clutter in there and I've made use of the vertical space with roosts and a swing - thank you, Mrs. K! Our head hen came from the...
