I bought this for myself for Christmas, hatched quail and 2 sets of chickens and now I am trying to downsize on my "stuff" for a move. Had fantastic hatches and if I buy a bator...
Thanks, that is what I was thinking.
Of course, the blue Australorp I was just SURE was a cockerel until just recently. She got a comb way early, but it seems to have stopped and her overall look says pullet to me... yipee! The only blue in the whole hatch of Australorps.
Boy or girl... I am leaning boy, but hoping girl! Born on Easter Weekend
Another EE or Olive egger... black ameracauna x black copper marans

Define grey?
I had some white cochins that came last year and they had a grey tint to them... they ended up being white.
I just got some red chanteclers (yes, I know, unrecognized color) and they were yellow, lighter yellow than my buff orp chicks as day olds. They are turning red though.

anyone know when this is supposed to start/end? I have a lot of chicks, but I am supposed to work that day @230 in Bangor... If it starts early I may come anyway...
Like you said, take the good with the bad. Shipping is hard on eggs period. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't... Good luck with the rest of the hatch!
I have an uninsulated well ventilated coop. As long as you are able to keep your bedding dry you should not have a problem. The difficulty is keeping fresh warm water, but that can be solved with a heated water bowl.
I had a rooster that got some frostbite on his comb and wattles, but the girls...
Heat lamp... and if it is not enclosed, at least tarp it to hold the heat in somewhat.
They should be getting fairly feathered at 5 weeks... well at least for cornish Xs
