On May 1st 2020 we got ournew chicks, they are WELSUMMER breed from what I have read about them they are from Neithlands. Very beautiful marking and are good winter hardy. 2 years ago we had 23 birds, 22 hens and our rooster Willy. We now are starting over after having to get rid of our birds...
I put the feed into a metal trash can with a scoop, I just use 2 scoops into the feeder (which is right next to the trash can). I find that I don't spill the feed as much.
yea I did think of that after the fact. My mother stated that my Grandfather who raised broilers and layers for years, never let them rest, just cooked them. So next time I'll just cook them...
By reading the above posts, everyone is saying to wait for a day or two... I almost think we could have cooked him right off the bat. I did a slow cook in the oven (I wonder if that is why)?
Well, I just noticed one of my girls has a bloody butt and an egg yesterday had some blood on it. We have separated her from the others. I just don't know what to do at this point... I have read people using Prep-H and warm water, or mineral oil and warm water. Over the winter I was feeding them...
We did our rooster and let him rest for 2 days... He ended up being the toughest bird I had every had. I don't know if it's because he was a rooster or not. He was only a year old.
