I checked on her and she was mostly out of the shell... I don't know if it was by her own doing or mama's. The mama was pecking at it and pulling on it's toes so I have since put it in a box with heat lamp. Her breathing seemed labored so hopefully she'll make it to morning! Thanks all for...
I'll try that. I tucked her under mamas wing cause she left it laying out in the open, probably why the membrane was so dried out. We have 7 other eggs that she is still sitting on but the past few days she seems to be getting sick of sitting or she only sits on a few... hopefully they r...
No i don't have an incubator. When I wrap it in a moist cloth, should I remove her from the mama or just leave it there. Sorry, I just don't want to lose my first one.
Best pic I can get right now.. don't want to bother it too much. The beak is at the lower part of the egg... the black thing sticking out. The rest of the black are feathers and a leg. I can see a few veins in the transparent membrane but the white membrane is thick and starting to dry out.
Just a few quick questions.. My hen is hatching out her first chick but it seems that the membrane is too tough for it to get out and it is looking dry in places.. is that supposed to happen or should I be concerned? Second question, will the hen help it to hatch out. I checked her a few...
I was able to check out the other 4 chicks that I have and there is one that already has a prominent comb but the other 4 don't. I"m going to have to do some research on Polish chicks!
I purchased some chicks from someone who said they were leghorns but in all my research I havn't found one with a mohawk like this. I have 5 total that look similar and can you tell if it's a roo or hen? It is about 2-4 weeks old. Thanks!
I got scared when I first saw mine to that... after I realized they wern't dead I loved it.
Yes that is a great picture! I think they are just adorable when they do it.
