    Birds of a different feather...

Ah - bat houses too. We have a significant size nursing colony under a roof which we are going to have to remove later this year. I'm hoping to build some bat houses so that the evicted colony has somewhere to go, but I'm not sure about how to entice them into the house. My wife suggests rubbing...

    Birds of a different feather...

I'm in the middle of constructing a large chicken coop/shed and it is coming along nicely, thanks to all of the info I've gleaned from this site. My only previous experience in constructing houses for avian occupants was a couple of bird houses I made over the winter, hoping to attract Eastern...

Best way to keep chickens "tame"?

Hi there. I am in the process of completing a coop, but have no chickens as yet - hoping to get them in the next month or two. We'll have about 6 of them, and they should have a nice roomy coop and run. However, we do want them to free-range as well, if possible. My question is how to get them...

    Double decker run?

Sounds like a great idea to me! I am no expert, but I do know that chickens love things that are interesting, and they certainly like more space. It'll be fun for you too! Make sure you post some pictures when it is done!

What do your buildings have for flooring?

Quote: Hi BankerJohn, I saw this pick on another thread where you mentioned that the pic is "before the landscape cloth and sand". It looks fantastic to me already! Do you have any pictures AFTER the cloth and sand were laid? Thanks, Malcolm

Should I rip out my OSB flooring?

Thanks everyone for the many great tips! The consensus seems to be that it could be okay if I seal/paint it very well, and keep the moisture off it. I could easily do that for the top, and I was planning a linoleum cover anyway, but to get the underside (which may be even more important) means...

Should I rip out my OSB flooring?

Many thanks again for everyone's helpful comments. I think I'm pretty much committed to changing the floor (which will be easy now, much more difficult later) and I'll reuse the OSB elsewhere. Good to hear the OSB has worked well in your kids' treehouse, RD, I guess that means it will work...
