Hey backyarders just wanted to tell you that i set my incubator with 12 barred rock eggs from my flock. YAAAAAAA!. The bator is 100.6 and i cant wait for 3 weeks t pass. I will update with candling pics in a 1 week.
if you dont mind me asking a Q, i have only seen my roo mate with my hens 2 times, i only watch them 30 min a day. Do u think he breeds with them or not?
yes, it is way to early for that in your climate. I would wait at least till they are fully featherd whci is around 6 weeks. then you also should put a heat lamp with them.
In the winter you might want to put a heat lamp inside the coop when it gets cold. In the winter you probly wont get that many eggs but if i were you i would get more.javascript:insert_text('',%20'');
i would keep him as far away as posible for about 3 weeks minimun. As for fighting with the hens i dont think it will be a problem, i would just watch him at first and see how he reacts.
yup the one on the right i am pretty sure that it is a roo. when mine were babies the 3 lighter ones turned out to be roos. and non of the other ones were roos
i am having some-difficulty deciding on which bantam breed to get. i hope you guys can give me some insight on the breeds listed and which one you recommend. They will be living in a tractor at has a 6x4 run and on top of it is the coop.
OEG bantams
Cochin bantams
silkies
or any or breeds that...
So i have 11 barred rocks and i was wondering if it would be ok to add about 5 mixed breed hens. People have told me that chickens are agressive torwards other breeds.
