Got a three week old I found in tsc when she was 2 days old with other chicks pecking her hock making it swell. She held it up to get around. Brought her home and put her under my hen who just hatched one chick and they’ve done well together.
The bad leg is better and she can put pressure on it...
Thank you both! You’ve given me hope. The other baby I got was injured and I purposely took her in. The others were pecking her leg. She’s doing so well under a mama hen so far (knock on wood) but I’ll have to pen this one if a rooster Bc this little girl can’t be bred ever. Thanks again
My hen hatched out one chick so I got a few more to go with her. Got one sapphire sky chick from tsc. The sign said pullets. The lady said oh if I hold a chick upside down and they fight to get upright that’s girl and see these wing feathers that’s girl. I said yes another girl here told me...
I have been using decolorized iodine for years since I saw it recommended here and have had great results. But I can't find it anywhere now. I wonder if they have discontinued it for some reason.
I just took in a chick from tsc that the others were pecking her hock. I had this same thing two years ago and made a lot of mistakes. I’m trying not to make those same mistakes with this one. Your post gives me hope should she not ever use this leg. Right now she just uses wings and won’t...
Do you think her egg will survive? Temps in barn were about 100 degrees when this happened. She was so hot out there that she was just standing up with egg under her. Egg was not hot. Was not cold either. I have since brought mom and her one egg into my air conditioned house and she's in a dark...
There's no way to stop the leak. I used a tiny 25 gauge needle on her and when i took it out, she's leaking like crazy. She's going to dehydrate. I tubed her some fluids but she kept fighting me so I gave up. I need to plug this hole. Cornstarch doesn't work (not blood of course). I can't think...
I've got a production red who is 8 years old. I'm shocked to see this breed at her age, but she has been a fantastic hen. She started looking wide in the hips about six weeks ago. No fluid at that time. Started a week ago with fluid. Seemed to come on overnight. The last two times I had a...
Oh no I am so sorry. I haven’t had any experience with one eating a screw yet that I know of. I was on the forums today bc I had a sick 2 yo hen who had crop surgery Monday. She was never the same after. I’ve had so many crop surgeries by the same vet. But this hen didn’t tolerate it...
For my girl this literally lasts start to finish about three months bc she gets yeast with it too. She has had it the last two years. I hope she doesn’t get it this year.
I have a Cochin who for three or four years would get a gizzard impaction during her moult and would eat awful stuff...
