My 3 indoor budgie aviary babies are now 5 weeks! Their coloring is WILD and I just welcomed 5 more chicks (2 scarlet tuxedo, 1 EB pansy looking bird with black legs, 1 Tibetan tuxedo but with light legs/pink beak, and one EB pansy looking bird with chocolate brown legs) so I’d love some...
What would you call that color? I agree that the chick looks like a Pharaoh, but she (I’m manifesting hens to help my ratio! 😂) is DEFINITELY EB, and likely roux given the color of her beak and legs.
My rosetta/Tibetans and my scarlet’s had much less pattern as chicks, only my falb, egyptian...
They’re here! We had two DIS (they seemed to pip in the wrong spot, poor bubbas) but these two are going strong and 2 days old now!
Strange colors though!
This one is a dark chestnut brown, but with big black polka dots on his back, and the same wild black marks around his eyes that my Pearl...
Here’s an interesting addition: I had two clicks hatch last night who I now see we’re clearly from my Tibetan tuxedo hen. They are either rosetta, or range (depending on whether the scarlett or falb roo fathered them) just for color comparison
The one with the yellow face will likely be some...
We’ve lost SO many bubbas this year (rats attacking the coop) that I may or may not have given the eggs “safety holes” to make sure they don’t drown 🙈
I’m somehow live and let live with my human children, but the most atrocious helicopter mama with my quail. 🤣 bless their little dum dum hearts ❤️
First pip on my first home bred eggs! 🤗
I have 4 on day 17… and I may have also thrown in the solid blue egg I found 4 days later 🤭 and a companion so I’ll have potentially 6 bubbas by next week!
I believe all 4 of these first clutch are from the same hen, though I don’t know which hen 😅...
I have two Scarletts and one does have white facial markings over her eyes and under her chin, but I believe that’s a different gene at play… here’s what they look like grown
And here she was at 3ish weeks:
And a few hours old: the chick right next to here here with the brown and black...
Oh gotcha! Sorry, apparently I got logged out and didn’t get notifications, I tried to take some better photos, these eggs I’m getting are certainly a pale blue, but they’re visually blue especially next to the greener and more tan ones I get.
The ones in my hand I’m not convinced are from the...
I guess I’m confused then… what are blue eggs that are not celadon? Do they have to be a certain shade of blue?
My recollection of posting my last light blue eggs (the ones these birds hatched from) was being told that celadons lack speckling, so my birds likely came from birds that carry one...
It seems now ALL THREE of my hens are laying! Am I correct to assume that each similar shape/patterned egg belongs to the same hen? If so… are the two barely speckled ones celadons?!?
Y’all, the odds of that are beyond wild! Of 29 live birds, only SIX have survived our various traumas of the...
Does anyone have any insight into how long after a stress hens will resume laying? My poor birds have had a really rough month, I did collect 3 eggs last week… but also had to remove 6 murdered birds the same day 😫
My 3 remaining hens have not laid since. They have been getting lots of food an...
All good advice! Sorry, I should have clarified: I have a brooder system that works well for us, this was for the time between when they’re off the heat, and when they are big enough to join my adult flock (are 6 birds still a flock?)
I’m assuming that if they move from the brooder to the cage...
My neighbor cut their shrubs way down so I stole a bunch of cuttings and added TONS of cover to the pen and these goobers INSTANTLY stopped chasing each other around and all went to snuggle together 😅
It was a weird win today!
I’ve heard that about breeding budgies (and females) … luckily ours are all male, and not at maturity yet so I’m hoping so long as the quail don’t like, fly up and eat all their chop they’ll be chill 😅
