    rooster question

I think 5 months just like when a girl is old enough to lay eggs. I could be wrong. It might even be as long as 8 months. If someone knows for sure feel free to correct me.

    Chicken Butts

The chickens (no matter what age) will peck at it on themselves. It's part of their preening. I've even seen my silkies raise a foot up and pick the stuff off that is stuck to the feathers on their feet and legs.

    2 questions about roosters

I've done a search and didn't find anything right away and it's late at night so I don't want to keep looking. So forgive me if this is a worn out question. At what age do males start to crow? I'm wondering because 1 of my 12 "pullets" that I received from Sunnyside Hatchery June 5th (so they'll...

The others are laying why isn't she?

Do you have any roosters in your group? If all you have is females then one of the girls will act as the "rooster" and therefore won't lay eggs.

    Coop addition w/pics and question.

ummm... maybe if they all get along well. Because it looks like they're going to be roosting pretty close to each other in that coop on the end.

    Quail hatching!!!!

I had 7 bobwhite hatch on Mother's Day and didn't discover any had hatched until 3 were out already. Aren't they just the cutest tiniest babies ever?! I thought I could get them to be tame but no...

    Any other homeschooling families here?

We'll be starting our second year of homeschooling soon. 2 sons 8th grade and 4th grade. My daughter will be 2 years old in December and I keep her busy with blocks or color wonder markers (the kind that mark on the special paper) she also likes to play "dump out and fill up" with measuring cups...

Where do you keep your incubator?

Mine is in the kitchen in the homeschool area. I have my last three silkie eggs in there that are due to hatch on the 9th of August. If this hatch goes well I'll have a total of 9 silkies that hatched a few weeks apart. Then my sister is bringing me 6 silver laced wyandottes that will be a day...

    anythin interestin???

Oh my gosh that is huge!! Do they cause highway accidents? I imagine if they got squished on the road that would make quite a slippery spot. Sort of like mayfly season around here and that one place that has a problem with all the crabs on the road and everywhere.
