I think 5 months just like when a girl is old enough to lay eggs. I could be wrong. It might even be as long as 8 months. If someone knows for sure feel free to correct me.

The chickens (no matter what age) will peck at it on themselves. It's part of their preening. I've even seen my silkies raise a foot up and pick the stuff off that is stuck to the feathers on their feet and legs.

Do you have any roosters in your group? If all you have is females then one of the girls will act as the "rooster" and therefore won't lay eggs.

ummm... maybe if they all get along well. Because it looks like they're going to be roosting pretty close to each other in that coop on the end.

Nope, it will not hurt the other eggs at all. In fact it encourages the others to hatch sometimes. I had 7 bobwhite hatch on Mother's Day and didn't discover any had hatched until 3 were out already. Aren't they just the cutest tiniest babies ever?! I thought I could get them to be tame but no...

My partner and I doing great. We've been exchanging a lot emails and getting to know each other. I don't know what to get for her yet.

Oh my gosh that is huge!! Do they cause highway accidents? I imagine if they got squished on the road that would make quite a slippery spot. Sort of like mayfly season around here and that one place that has a problem with all the crabs on the road and everywhere.
