Pretty sure today will be much better and fan free. We are expected to be stormy and the strong winds are already making them happy. Time to refill and redo layer boost (my electrolytes for layers). I'll update later.
Thank you. We have a mister for them but that's once we do the run. Getting plastic pool this week for them.
They love the fan we put on them Today! The sicky looking chickadee looks and acts much better. All girls are enjoying their electrolyte filled waters-not so much the barn girls but...
Thank you. Today we put a fan directly into coop. Feel the fan from perches over to the nesting boxes. Also using electrolytes again in all waterers (not letting them even getting warm).
Yes, it was very hot in there today. Just checked on them for last time tonight. All on perches and rafters next to windows and vents. The white combed comet got down from where I put her and she's next to the waterer.
We've had them since they hatched last April and May.
Got 21 out of 23 eggs...
Not shaded
Plenty ventilation (2 vent windows, 3 open wall windows)
8ft tall x15ft
12 pole perches with rafters all around and all have window access
3 gallon waterer filled and changed daily and as needed with ice water
2 3 gallon feeders
7 nesting boxes and they typically use 3
We are in OH and its extremely hot and humid the past few weeks.
We have 23 girls in the coop, plenty of water and feed (I fill every other day). They are all panting and wings fluffed out to help cool themselves off.
Gave them yogurt treats tonight as a cool treat.
One golden comet was in...
Our worst looking eggs always come after a rain storm. Husband always wants customers to have spotless eggs. Our customers don't mind and I only wipe cleaner if really bad. This is rainy season and most are horrible.
Ooo I love Meyer Hatchery!!! I got the meal makers as well. One was golden comet (golden buff) the 2nd was Golden laced Wyandotte.
Of course you can't just have 1 of that breed so...A++++ in chicken math class
Got a great welcome present today!! 11am and 18eggs in 1 nesting box with 2 big black Aussies laying in there.
Yesterday was 13, farm boy said looked like several were crushed and gone (multiple brown colors on different eggs, stuck with yolk)
Feels good to be home but it's an adjustment as it...
awww I'd love to depending on breeds, but we had a rooster from April to Nov then had to give him away. Started being very aggressive and nearly killed several girls (pecking eyes). So we can't do anymore for now. Thank you though. I'd love to have been able to do that idea.
According to the farm boy and hubby, we've gotten average of 20eggs a day all week. Hubby thought 1 or 2 were ceramic so he lost those. He laid out and cleaned eggs that needed it, also sold 2 dozen to our hospital customer!
I'm just very impressed how much he is taking over the chickadee duties...
