Drake lost mate - how can I get him eating?

Thank you! I now have two RouenxPacific Black ducks that my husband thought may make good buddies for him. But they are going to be wayyyy too small! At the moment they free range with my motley crew of chooks... my girls are Large... but I will separate them if needs be when they mature! In...

Drake lost mate - how can I get him eating?

UPDATE: I have opened the dividing gate to my pekin pens. I am currently home 24/7 and have been observing behaviors for 5days now. My lone male is co-exsisting with his parents with no issues. He has started wholeheartedly smashing down his mash and they all share a bowl! The two drakes...

Peas as treats and soft shelled eggs

I noticed calcium deposits and thin egg shells from my 2year old hen a couple months ago. I started giving her the shells of her or the chooks eggs at dinner time and that cleared everything up within about a week! I now make it a habit of feeding an eggshell back to her a couple times a...

    2019 Spring Ducklings are here!

Excuse the ridiculously late response to this... but here is what I use for a brooder... it’s sold as a guinea pig cage on eBay... has roof and side access and as the guys get big enough they can hop in and out, if I choose to let them. Which as you can see by the state of my living room...

Babies are Growing up ❤️ update

The ducklings my husband brought home to become my lone Perkins new flock are growing into beautiful creatures! They are cross Rouen and Pacific Black (wild Australian duck) “Chonk” is definitely looking like her Rouen Dad! Thick and chunky :) “MiuMiu” (named because her loooong legs make her...

Totally useless post, but... Mine know the sound of my car! They don’t make a peep if hubs pulls into the drive! But as soon as I turn off the street they are off! Luckily I only have one neighbor :D Wouldn’t have it any other way would we!?!? :)

    New Ducklings

Oh don’t you worry! I am that crazy lady with separate pens for everyone! I currently have two duck pens, and three chook pens... because some of the girls prefer to sleep with only their closest friends! The drake in question has an adjoining pen to his parents. As he does not act politely when...

    New Ducklings

I posted recently about my lone drake who lost his mate. My husband brought home two ducklings from the feed store that we hoped would become his new flock. But by the luck of the gods... and I have terrible luck! I believe I’ve ended up with a blooming drake/hen pair! Here are some pics for...

Drake lost mate - how can I get him eating?

I actually wouldn’t mind having a male pair either! I will keep the options open! In my experience apart from breeding season (where I have to wear closed in shoes, Incase my drake tries to bite my toes) males seem to be more open to human company and cuddles :)

Oh yes, I sneak some of those in! We have to restock our supply! I have ducks, chooks and turtles, who all adore them! I also found some freeze dried crickets that have been popular hehehe :D
