I could care less :) All I know at that he/she (lol!) is so dang sweet and pretty. I'll be bummed if I have to trade in for another hen. And I can't wait for our first eggs! Such a fun adventure we've started. On a side note, holy crap coops are pricey . We've probably spent close to $600. These...

You're right that they weren't sure. It was marked "rare" breeds. They weren't expensive. Pretty sure all were the same price. And the lady that owns the shop is a big chicken enthusiast. She keeps them on her farm. I realize this doesn't mean that she's an expert, but she knows way more than me...

Man...everybody seems so positive it's a cockerel while the woman at the shop was sure it's a pullet. She said Marans have darker wattles? Again...I'm new. I didn't tell her the breed when I showed up and she goes "oh! A Cuckoo Maran, right?" So I don't know. Time will tell I suppose.

    Cuckoo Marans-Boy or Girl?

Hey! I know that this is super old...just wondering if it ended up being male or female. I have a Maran that looks just like this.

Al well...took the chick in. The owner seemed pretty confident that Lorraine is a girl. Said her comb would be bigger if it was a cockerel? But she assured us that if she's wrong, she'll take the chick and give us another from her flock. Good to know.

I agree with you, but our store seems pretty helpful. They had pretty young workers helping us pick chicks. The owner exchanges chicks out of they turn out to be roosters, so there's that. My kids became pretty attached. What a drag.
