Yep she “complains” all the time (only when we are around). She is pretty friendly and always come to us first though. That sound she makes is just kinda annoying..
The rest of the flock (different breeds) is perfectly happy and just chirping and minding their own business...
4 months old. Been very noisy lately (not a very pleasant sound she keeps making. Like some sort of upset/annoyed sound...). Pullet? (We did clip some fly feathers)
Thanks and yep...pretty early! I posted the roo’s pic below. I was surprised that they can be sexed this early so I wanted to seek some other opinions :)
5 four-week-old lavender Orpington chicks - one I know for sure is a roo. But how about the other 4? Don’t really believe I am this lucky to get 4 pullets and 1 cockerel...
Will attach a pic of the roo in the comment section below shortly.
Hello everyone, we rescued this blind/partially blind bird about two months ago. She’s supposed to be around 8 months old now (but who knows). We were told Jersey Giant cross hen.
Please let me know 1) it’s a she! (A bit of doubt now a few random people commented on her being a roo) 2) guesses...
I wish I get 3-4/week each... we get 3-4/week from 4 hens. One EE is molting pretty bad (6-7 month old as well. She laid 4 eggs in the span of 2 weeks and stopped...). The ISA browns started laying again after we added light (2-3 each, and they are only 1.5 years old). Oh well!
Looking forward...
Thanks for the info. All (well, 2) our first year-ers stopped laying. The EE even went into a pretty bad molt. The other brown egg layer started to lay for maybe a week and stopped.
Our browns started to lay again 2-3 weeks after we started adding light. We are letting the quail break this...
We’ve had ISA browns, Light Brahmas, EEs, and even two Sussex’s - they all stop laying in the winter if not supplementary lights were added.
Research tells me that Australorps are fantastic winter layers (lay a record of 364 eggs in 365 etc.) - but DO I HAVE TO ADD LIGHT for winter laying to...
Ah I see. Thanks for the info! We do want a few eggs in the winter so we will supplement a bit of light this year and see how it goes!
We are giving the quail a break this winter. Next winter will be the chickens’ time to break :) we are new (first season) to having chickens but LOVING them so...
They look so different from our EE! And their feathers are SO SOFT! Never felt this kind of feather on chickens before. Here’s a pic of our EE who’s 6 month old (laid two eggs and stopped lol...she’s molting now)
