Ok! Thanks @junebuggena! I was planning on switching based on other things I've heard. I still have 2 bags of layer feed, I might get some starter, and mix them until the other stuff is gone. I have been giving them some plain yogurt to up the protein, but it also has a lot of calcium.
I have a mixed flock and I notice that the EE's eggs are harder to crack than those from my other birds. It seems like they always crush. Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks! I did give some canned tuna about a week ago, they ate it right up! Do you think the mackerel is healthier for them? I put out plain yogurt recently, but only the EE's went for that. Their bums are fluffing back up some.
I will for sure! One of them still has a scab, so I'm waiting until she's completely healed to try to get them all together. I thought I'd do it when the day will be in the 50's so I can comfortably spend a lot of time outside to be sure it goes well.
I see, our coop is still pretty new and there is some DE in the bedding, so I don't think we have mites. I like the idea of using the shower curtain! Thanks!
LOL @Latestarter , I know that can be common practice, but we are vegetarians! hahaha!
I had read that curtains would harbor mites, but I might try your suggestion. The inside of the nesting box is painted dark brown, but plenty of light shines in the open side. Thank you!
I only have 4 birds all together, I think the very top one started it and the beta copied. Should I just separate #1? Their run is about 10ft x13ft, before I divided it in half. They have logs and stumps and even a xylophone. The big coop is about 4 ft x 8 ft. They have free choice pellet food...
About 2 weeks ago, my 2 EEs had their vents pecked bloody by my other 2 girls. I separated them, gave them an epsom salt bath and put pick no more on their bottoms. I built a backup coop and divided the run so that they could be outside while they healed.
I gave them all extra protein and...
My EE, also named Marshmallow, started at 33 weeks and my other started at 34. Yesterday was the first day that I got 2 green eggs! One is more minty colored and the other is more sagey colored, although the difference is slight. Good luck!
