I would love to see a picture after hatching and see how they turn out. We're up in new England, but if you find you end up with a strong batch of breeding birds, perhaps we'd take you up on that! Right now we're trying to see what comes of the young-ins we got from this last batch. A very...
I'm not sure how to tell if they're overweight.
We usually give it to them in the cooler seasons to help out a bit as they're molting then too, less so in the warmer weather as we cook the burgers on the grill then.
We have butchered some of our birds before and they did not appear to have...
Possibly, perhaps this is just what laying looks like for these girls. A case of us showing up at a bad time. 🤷 Some hens get so excited on free range days that their eggs seem to slide right out of them on their way out the door.
I don't see any blood on the eggs like the girls are too tight...
Organic boxes of spring mix spinach blend. The big ones from bulk grocery stores. One ever three days. And lately lots of watermelon rinds. And we did try oyster shells, but the girls just don't go for it. So we mix powdered calcium citrate into the feed daily
Hi, 👋
We've noticed some of our hens appearing to have a harder time than usual laying their eggs. Panting, standing up partially, bugged out eyes, grunting, usually the girls seem fine, but lately a few seem to be struggling extra, it's not just one breed or age either. All have been laying...
We use the exact same thing, just sprinkle it into there feed, we went out feed a little and stir it in. I've heard it's best to give it to them at night, not sure if there's any truth to it, busy the girls do like a late night snack
My goodness so much to ponder, and so much great input!
We know that there are so many toxic substances everywhere, and it can seem pointless to do anything about it, but we try to minimize exposure where we can without driving ourselves mad.
While feeding the flock this morning I had a thought...
Should we be worrying about the girls getting micro plastic from the feed bins and waterers? And what of the eggs.
Anyone else wondering about this?
That explains why they seem happiest with numbers in the low teens.
I had a feeling the other day that maybe this was just the girls saying 'we like things as they are, thank you very much!' since the girls seemed so calm and chill prior to this. We have a mobile coop that needs some repairs...
