I dont want to dispatch him though, for all his tantrums, hes a good bird to his hareem and looks after them well. However, if he ever tries to attack anyone but me, well......it will be one of his last actions.

    Should I provoke my roo?

Hey all, Wondering should I provoke my roo to the point where he attacks? The background to it is my roo attacked me some months back. I searched the site and read about various ways to let him know he's on your turf, not the other way around. So off i went and anytime he got too close or...

Eggs 24 days old, big air pocket.

No movement in the egg and the air sack is about a quarter to a third the size of the egg. WHat does this mean? Im presuming the eggs have expired and wont hatch. Still some space left and i see no movement. Im a disaster, what did i do wrong?

    Junglegym for chickens?

Hey all, Is there such a thing as a *wanting a better word* 'playground' for chickens? I mean, dogs have thier chew bones, go on walks and lead an almost adventurous life. Cats have their scratching posts, which can in some cases look like mini apartments. Birds have their swings and toys. The...

Chicks were out scratching around.....dogs, who dont bother with the chicks, were in the same area. Went in to the house, came back out 15 mins later...one chick on its side. Brought it in and wrapped it up. Died. I prefer my chickens to my dogs, and I'm not going through this again.....I...

    Rain

Quote: Exactly right. We get more than our fair share of rain over here which results in snails, slugs and worms. The chickens love it.

    Odd behaviour from hen

Yesterday, I turned over some soil for her, she got this 7inch worm. Usually with worms, she wolfs them in a second. this time she spent the best part of 5mins breaking it up to eat. Gave her some more mealworms later, which she took her time on, as opposed to her usual method of practically...

    Odd behaviour from hen

I wish I could say the same for mine Grasjm36, at least then I'd know, but i'm afraid where I am in Dublin, we dont have hawks or predatory birds of that ilk. My girls and roo are out of reach from every predator...even the foxes, which we do have roaming around. Its annoying and im annoyed...

    Odd behaviour from hen

Thanks guys Checked the vent and its clean and clear. Shes still laying, so not egg bound. Shes a 14 month old RIR. I've tried the egg, and also gave her some mealworms. Still eating, drinking and pooing normally, but then stands away on her own, head in and eyes closed.
