Hi, I'm sorry about your hen.
I am in no way an expert and might not be much help but I thought I could at least say what I would do in your situation. I would probably separate her from the other chickens and put her in a covered dog crate or large box so she is somewhere dark. This way she...
I posted a few days ago in the chick forum, but his leg is getting worse. At first it looked like splayed leg, but now I know for sure it is not. His leg is twisted outward and starting to face backwards. It gets worse everyday. He can't walk at all without a brace. He has had a rubber band...
It was always slightly turned, but in the last two days it has gotten worse. He can get around ok but was doing better before his leg started twisting. How would I make a brace to straighten his leg?
It has had the rubber band brace for several days now. It can stand on its own now and get around a little bit, but one of its feet is turned outward at a 90 degree angle. Any idea what could have caused this, and if I can fix it?
Thanks for the instructions on that rubber band brace. It looks like it will work better and last longer than the band aid ones I've been making. Also this chick cries a lot. Would this be because he is in pain or just upset that he can't use his legs correctly?
The chicks that were effected...
Hi again!
Okay the same chick that had the dried egg goo stuck to it now seems to have leg problems. We noticed that it was holding its legs kind of splayed out. We have had a couple chicks that had splayed legs so we made him the same kind of band aid brace. It has been a few days and his legs...
Hi again!
I have a polish chick that just hatched this morning that didn't seem to be doing as good as the rest. He mostly just stands with his eyes closed. When I picked him up I noticed that he had a pile of dried on goo and small pieces of shell stuck to his navel. I wasn't sure if I should...
I still plan on de-worming them when I can get the wormer in a day or so. It has been pretty wet and nasty here so I was already thinking about worming them before this happened.
She is doing a lot better this morning. She must have been dehydrated because almost immediately after I forced some water down her she started to perk up. I'm going to keep an eye on her and make sure she keeps drinking. I'm not sure why she wasn't in the first place as she had constant access...
Ok, I will work on re-hydrating her and then I will pick up de-wormer. It has been in the low 90°s the past couple days, and all the chicken coops are in full or part shade.
She is eating, and she is not thin at all. she drank very little yesterday and wouldn't drink by herself today. I don't think she has ever been wormed. Legs, vent, comb and feet all look normal. Here's a poop from this morning
