i had this same thing happen , only a 40 week old hen die . She had a limp , then within a few hours she was laying on her side not able to move at all ... Figured out that it was mareks disease , i would do some research and compare symptoms and see if it is mareks disease.

this problem too , it eventually works itself out, just put some roosts in the run and maybe supervise free range . It is painful to watch but it eventually works out.

Honestly, rhode island reds r great breeds, but from my experiences r not the nicest birds , i would go with black australorps or something with a better temperment
