    Inflamed bottom, shell-less eggs?

Blondie is a Black Asian hen, maybe 2 years old, who has been sitting in the nesting box trying to lay an egg, someone is laying eggs without shells (there are 3 chickens in the coop, not sure if it’s her but she appears to be not able to lay an egg. She otherwise behaves normally, eats, drinks...

    Started with draining, sticky eyes

Our adult Sultan hen started having draining eyes that would stick closed overnight - we would gently clean them with warm saline & cotton balls so she’d be able to see in the morning & as long as she could see she’d be up & eating like normal. We brought her in the house a couple days later, as...

should I try terramycin eye ointment?

I have a hen whose eye is crusty, gets stuck closed - I've used "tears" drops, which loosen the gunk & allows her eye to open, but wonder if Terramycin opthalmic ointment would be appropriate to try. All the other chickens are normal - not sure whether she got a foreign body in the eye (can't...

    Sour Crop CURED with Monistat

Yes, I know what you mean by your sweet pet :) I feel the same! Our hen was very lethargic - that's what first caught our attention - she was moping around separate from the others. When we picked her up, we felt that big mushy crop. We brought her in the house & kept her in a cat kennel - her...

    Sour Crop CURED with Monistat

I was hoping someone would've replied to your post by now - I don't feel very qualified to say whether it would be a good idea to give your hen Monistat based on her symptoms. I guess I'd hold off, since she's acting healthy and the only thing you're seeing is a small, soft crop in the morning...

    Wheezing rooster

Just a final update - our rooster is back to his old self and crowing again. Removing that plug from his nostril did the trick - thanks again for all your help!

    Wheezing rooster

Thanks - I thought about the saline & will try that. The matter we picked out of the nostril looked like corn dust and dirt. There's no mucous, eyes are clear. I looked inside his mouth & there was no yellow patches, but I really never looked in a chicken's mouth like that before so I don't know...

    Wheezing rooster

Just an update - we were able to remove a pretty big chunk of stuff that was packed in his nostril, which seems to have helped, but it seems there's more that's too deep to get at. We'll try again later - giving him a break - to soften it some more & hopefully clear it. Any more suggestions are...

    Wheezing rooster

Thank you for your quick reply! No signs of respiratory distress in the flock. His coop area is well ventilated , but I'll check for mold - he loves watermelon, wonder if we left something too long ? But we'll definitely check for yellow patches in his throat - if that's present, then what...

    Wheezing rooster

Our 2year old rooster started wheezing about a week ago. He otherwise behaves normally, eating, drinking, lively, bright eyed & bushy tailed, no drainage or sign of fever. 1 nostril is dirty - he loves fruit & then forages so the dirt is certainly stuck on 1 nostril - I've tried to clean it with...
