We are new to the Urban Farm movement. "We" include my husband, our son, and myself. We also own a Tibetan Terrier named Gimli. He is 2 years old now, still very much a playfull puppy and very curious about our new girls. We are the proud owners of 4 new chicks: Aveline, our Buff orpington...
We had a spotted skunk that used to frequent our yard. We purchased a couple of large containers of hot chili pepper powder and sprinkled it around the perimeter. (sprinkled a lot) and it seemed to deter the skunk enough to move on to someplace else.
this list (website) was very helpful. we were going to free range our girls, but we have about 20 of those plants planted in our backyard. Free Range and take out most of the plantings in our yard or build a big pen they can spend the day in and we can move it around to different spots. Guess...

check with a local boy scout troop or 4-H club or neighbor that is handy with tools that will trade for cookies and lemonade or eggs later on. Also barter on craigslist trade tutoring for work. Local high schools might have a volunteer service organization - (wood shop class) that...

we are limited to 10 chickens in city limits, we have 5 which is enough for our first time raising chicks, next time definitely 10.
Your coop and run are really nice - wish we had that much room
congratulations! We have 4 that are 5 weeks old and 1 that is 2 weeks old. Our coop is still in the neighbors yard, so the chicks are still in the house. We will have the man-power to move the coop on Sunday, and we were a little worried about moving the little girl out at night, but didn't want...
so jealous that you can hold your chicks with an open hand, ours peep loudly and flap their wings and are not happy being held, even though we held them every day since we got them. They are now 4 weeks old and do not like human contact - they never really did actually - and yes we are gentle...
We have 5 chicks and they all take naps together and go to sleep at night all cuddled up together.
They are 1 week to 3.5 weeks old and have always slept this way - always like 3 weeks is a long time ha!
I am a new egg so I am not sure I can help. We have 5 chicks that are between 1 and 3.5 weeks old. At first I kept the light on 24/7 for about the first two weeks. I purchased a warming bulb that does not give out any light - just heat. Now I turn off the light at night and turn on the heat...
