Are there any breeds in particular that would get along with RIR over another? I know RIR can be jerks sometimes to other chickens but they're fine with us. Thanks!

Black spots on my chickens combs

Just discovered my three hens have dry pox. Seems like they don't really mind and that I can't treat it anyway so it'll just run its course. Is the vaccine recommend to avoid future breakouts a good idea?

The others haven't shown any symptoms yet, and it's past the incubation period. They were obviously exposed to her though. Is that what you would do? And if so, is 2 months enough time or does it need to be in the 6 month range?...

I thought that's what it was going to be, honestly. She did shake her head a lot but I never saw stuff fly everywhere. Here's a couple lines from the report that makes me think she had that too: "ILT testing is pending and though I did not see lesions typical of this disease, the chronic form...

So, the main thing she had was MG. The report also listed enterococcus (which is strep essentially), tracheitis, e.coli but no salmonella, and the results are still pending for laryngo.

That's the one I went to. There were some complications with the packaging so I ended up driving it there myself. They said I should have a report within a couple days - are they really that fast?

I will definitely let you all know what it was. I can't thank you all enough for your help. I feel much more prepared for anything that may come up with this flock, and any in the future.

Hen hides in corner of coop

We put her down today and will be sending her for a necropsy on Monday. I really wanted her to get better but it was finally clear that she wasn't going to. Would treating the others with the Duramycin as a preventative do more harm than good - build up a resistance?

Not the whole head but one of her eyes and the area around it looked a little puffy on Wednesday, but went down some yesterday. Does it seem like medicine will help her at this point?

Hen hides in corner of coop

So, I thought she looked a little better from yesterday actually. She ate her food that also had the medicated water mixed in so I know she got fluids during the day. I gave her more vitamin and medicated water by hand as well. Her eyes were not crusted again but after maybe 30 minutes of...

He also mentioned wry neck and to provide vitamin supplements and antibiotics if I felt they were necessary. I can't get Tylan 50 which is another thing that was suggested. At this point, it's just a waiting game. I'm giving her the Duramycin, vitamins in her water and protein packed food.. If...

Hen hides in corner of coop

Oh, I see. I don't think she has all of those, I just meant I can't tell out of those 3-4 because they all share similar symptoms. How many days will it take to start seeing some sign of improvement after giving her the Duramycin in her water? I believe the store gets their chickens from...

Oh, really?? I am in CA. That's a relief. Newcastle is a long shot or coryza?

Hen hides in corner of coop

I used a little dropper and would put it near her beak in my hand and she would drink it. Her eyes were completely crusted over when I got home! She let me soak a wet paper towel on them to get it off. Reading through different forums and links she shows symptoms of 4 different illnesses...
