    3 wk old bloody??

Thanks for the info. I washed her behind off after reading that about the "caine" drugs. I gave her a new box with new shavings, just in case any of the spray had gotten in her box or shavings. She is sleeping now. I hope she gets better soon. She has a terrific personality. I'll get her some...

    3 wk old bloody??

We now have six baby chicks, all about 3 weeks old. They were, and five still are, in a Christmas tree box/make do brooder. They have a heat lamp, window screens across the top to keep them in, oil free wood shavings, starter/grower crumbles, and water. I just checked on them and our leghorn has...

    Chicken suggestions for small flock?

Thanks for all the input. We drove an hour up the road to pick up three chicks today. We picked these... The black one is supposed to be a barred rock. The striped one is supposed to be and EE. The orange one is supposed to be a RIR. We're taking our chances with her. I was planning on...

    Chicken suggestions for small flock?

Thanks for all the terrific information!!!! I had our kids look at the link to the chicken finder and they feel in love with the silver laced wyandotte and barred rock. Such a hard decision! BTW, those orps are adorable. I'm planning on looking into them. Thanks for posting the cute pics. My...

    Chicken suggestions for small flock?

We are trying to decide what types of hens to get. We have three children, ages 8, 4, and 2. I'm sure they will want to love on at least one of them and make it more of a pet. The hubby and I are looking for good egg layers. We have room for three hens. We plan to add a few more once we sell...

    Vaccines?

Thanks for the input. I will look into the Mareks vaccine. I guess I can ask about it when I pick up the pullets.

Permanent Hoop Coop In Progress_Update!!! See Post #34!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do see a difference. It's nice to know that people raise heritage birds. We're new to chickens and I didn't know that you could even get a heritage chicken. Something to think about.

Wow! That's a terrific design. It looks really nice. I've never heard of heritage RIR's. Is that the same with gardening, like heritage tomatoes?

    Vaccines?

We don't have a chicken yet. We are planning to get three pullets when they come in to our local Tractor Supply. Right now they are three weeks late. Anyway, I'm wondering if they should get vaccines? We eat an organic diet and I'm not sure what the word is on poultry vaccines. We plan on...

    Hi, lurker coming out...

Hi, I finally decided to join. I've been wanting chickens for a while and my hubby has finally caved in and gave us the go ahead. I've been lurking for a while. My search for light sussex hens has led me to register. I was hoping I could find a place to purchase some. These will be our first...
