    Milking Time Photos.

Goats are wonderful little critters. I miss not having mine; but now my grandson is raising some, and he loves them just as much as I loved mine.

I had noticed that I'm not getting mine either.

** My EE hen started laying! **

I'm waiting on EE's as well. They are about 22 wks now, but we have had a horrible winter this year, and the coop isn't heated. They have grown well, just haven't started laying yet. I think it's taking a lot of their energy to survive. Poor little girls. They do LOVE their warm mash!

Do "closed" pelvic bones ever "open" again?

Thank you all so much for the insight. This site is a wonderful source of information from people who speak from experience. Thanks again.

Do "closed" pelvic bones ever "open" again?

I checked one of my layers who is less than a year old, who is on egg laying vacation, and her pelvic bones are only about 1 finger width apart. She is a nice barred rock, and I'm sure she will lay again once the days get longer. I'm so glad to see your reply, pips&peeps, because my girls are...

Do "closed" pelvic bones ever "open" again?

I'm relatively new to raising layers, but was told by someone that when a hen stops laying, her pelvic bones will "close" up, and they need to be culled. Is that really true? What if they just take their winter "break" while the days are shorter? I understand they will lay again when the days...

    Mash

Yes, I feed that to my girls, and they LOVE it. They are a little spoiled, and gobble this up in the cold weather when I make it with really warm water. They think it's a special treat, and it's just their feed in a different form sometimes I add fresh blueberries, sometimes flax seeds, any...

    Dry Leaves As Bedding?

If they are really dry when bagged, it should work. Give it a go as there really isn't anything to lose. I bet your girls will thank you :-)

    Dry Leaves As Bedding?

In the summer, every time we mow, I take the grass/leaves from the mower bagger and give them to my girls. They love to scratch in it looking for bugs, eating grass, and it does make great bedding. I don't know how it would keep if the temps are above freezing; just thinking that the moisture...

A story about love and a huge rear end!

What a touching story. You were blessed to have found your soul mate, even if the time was cut short. Most people never find that. God Bless. Lynn M

Ok so this is the plan!

Looks like you have some nice space to work with. Have fun with your project - it's such a feeling of accomplishment when it's done. Good Luck! My husband built a screen door out of 1x4 framing and chicken wire which has also been helpful. We started with a garden storage shed.
