I'm relatively new to raising layers, but was told by someone that when a hen stops laying, her pelvic bones will "close" up, and they need to be culled. Is that really true? What if they just take their winter "break" while the days are shorter? I understand they will lay again when the days grow longer, and am confused about this. Hope someone with more experience will explain this, as I've searched and can't find anything about this topic. Thank you.
