2 chicks dead, 2 others look sick

Well out of 10 total chicks, 6 died. Four of the originals are still here and coming along beautiful. I realized later on that the feed bag I had been feeding them out of had mold in the bottom. So I tossed it and bought a new bag. I'm not sure at all if that's what was going on. The corid...

The box isn't for them to hide in btw. It's just like a raised platform in case they were still cold. Their poops have also gotten more normal over the last day so hopefully the corid is fixing everything. The chicks in the bin at RK looked kinda sickly tbh. I wonder how many they've lost there

The bricks is a good idea. Idk why I never though of it. The cedar chips are my bfs. I'll just have to keep a better eye out for which bag I grab lol

Omg yes. Good catch. I just grabbed the first bag I found in the shed. I have some pine too I'll switch them out. That's not why the others died is it?

They get medicated feed. No grit and no treats yet. This IS the same brooder setup I've prev used. Except this time I put a box in there so they could get closer to the lamp because they're just so tiny. I have been checking the vents and cleaning them throughout the day. I woke up this morning...

    scaly leg mites?

Do you have a dust bath that they use? I know you can mix wood ash and/or DE in with it. That might just be preventative, I'm not sure. But I deff recommend it as well as a treatment.

I do have a syringe so I will try that. I threw some feed at her feet and I saw her peck at it a little so hopefully she was just chilled from getting wet. Never dealt with cocci before and I don't like it.

2 chicks dead, 2 others look sick

I'll try and keep this short. Last week I got some day old OEG banties. A few have had pasty butt. 1 got very weak and weighed nothing. She died that night. I woke up to another dead chick who previously seemed fine. They've been active and eating/drinking fine as far as I've seen. A few of them...

Maybe these vitamins are doing the trick! I haven't seen her sit like this yet. I'm already attached so if she keeps pulling through she's a definite keeper.

Day old chick off balance, scratching at ears, laying on back

She's actually two days old now. But since she's been in the brooder I've noticed her acting weird. She doesn't sit upright like normal. she can walk around okay, just obviously off balance. She can stand up and eat. I haven't seen her drink so we have been syringe watering her a...

    Bantams and large breeds

Thanks for replying! I think I'll get the barred rock or Easter egger bantams and just keep an eye out. All else fails I'll build them a separate coop I suppose. I've read posts where people had silkies with large breeds no problem but I didn't know they had poorer eyesight so I'll play it a...

Poop. You think even barred rock bantams would get picked on too much? I just love the small chickens so much

    Bantams and large breeds

Hi! My boyfriend and I are about to order some chickens from Meyer Hatchery. I believe he is getting a few eggs and a few chicks of the leghorn and barred rock breeds. A well as a few Jersey Giant chicks. He is raising his with the end goal being food, but will continuously hatch these breeds as...
