Great info. I am trying to integrate my 4 ‘littles’ with my 3 ‘bigs’. Currently segregated but can ‘talk’ through the fence. Fingers crossed that this works!!!
Where I live, there are woods about a block behind us. At night, I have noticed a skunk frequenting the feeder. I have 3 adult chicks who sleep through it (the dogs don’t though….) and I have 4 babies that need to go outside. I have plugged up every single hole I can find and the skunk still...
My 4- 2 yr old girls quit laying about 10-12 weeks ago. Since then, one went through a hard molt and 2 others have molted a bit but that was about a month ago. They get plenty of protein, greens, bugs, etc. Their combs are very pale. Should I be concerned? They seem happy enough, talk to me...
I noticed today, my girlie has a pale comb by comparison to my others. She seems fine- eating, clucking, drinking, is alert and doing her chick stuff (altho not laying anything). She just went through a molt. The weather is cold (30 daytime) and they haven’t free- ranged as they are not fans of...
I hadn’t thought about the temp change. Because it is now above freezing during the day and sunny (thank God!) I have 2 ceramic eggs and periodically find they have been moved from box to box. I have 5 hens and 3 boxes on each side. Since I am in city limits, I can’t have more than 6 chickens...
Thank you for this. So far I have not had a predator or pest issue and I did put the ceramic eggs back into the boxes. They are not lacking for space.....
She is laying on the side of the coop that they use for sleeping. The nesting boxes are on the other side of the coop, and as a rule, they do not sleep in that side. (Except for Miss broody b;!(!ch- affectionately named by my grandson). Miss BB is not laying at all- she’s molting. It’s my bantee...
My girls always laid in the same spot, the nesting box until yesterday. Now I am finding eggs in odd spots. Is there any way to retrain them to lay in one place? There is plenty of room for them. And I just put the 2 ceramic eggs back in their boxes thinking this would entice them to
lay there...
Thank you. I thought it might be a bit of frost bite as well, but just wasn’t sure. It got down to -10 and the wind was blowing- they were out of the wind, and there was plenty of ventilation even with a tarp over the coop.
