    I use 2x3" welded wire for the runs. The bottom 2' also has 1/2 " chicken wire inside the welded wire to keep small press out & small chicks in.

    We have one GSL, she started laying at 18/19 weeks. She is our best layer of the flock.

    Is there a way to convince the girls to lay in a different spot?

    Do you have fake eggs in the nest boxes! They may need to be reminded where to lay. You need to take the spot away that they are laying in now. Use wood at an angle or something that they cannot get inside or on top of. It is no fun crawling around to collect eggs I'm sure. . Good luck!

    When do roosters get mean?

    Usually if they are going to be mean it is when they are mature, or of breeding age. some do not turn mean though. Hope you get lucky with yours.
