Thank you for your reply Gresh :) I was afraid of that. They are pets but not exactly "attached" to any of them. She's only 4 months old so I wanted her to live awhile. I will check out the group you mentioned and see how it goes, thanks again!
Can I file my hens top beak down far enough to wear it does not curl down beside the lower beak? Or is that too much? I'd like to try and help her before I make the decision to cull her to see if it helps. I have large clippers and dog nail trimmers but am scared I would cut it back too far.
That sounds about right :) I like IFA here but I watched the ladies one day trying to get chicks out of the brooder and they were dropping them on the floor and ones were falling out while they had a few doors open. Me and another lady were trying to help gather them up and put them back in. So...
I'm in Flora Vista! I believe IFA gets theirs from Privett, no clue on Big R or Tractor Supply. IFA had their chicks marked and sorted pretty good this year so you know what breeds they were. They do sometimes get mixed up though.

They do and it's the most adorable thing to watch!!! We got these 3 at TSC so I'm not certain how old they are, maybe 4-5 days old now and they chase each other around the water dish and jump in each other as if playing leap frog.
I used the heat plate up until 2 weeks ago (4weeks old) they were fully feathered and just kinda laying on the outskirts and around the brooder.
Just for the record all 14 chicks still fit under the Small heat plate at 4 weeks. They huddle up closely when they want too.
We now have 3 new...
We have converted half of a 10x10 shed into a coop and used Blackjack #57 on the floor and walls. Very easy too apply and has hardly any odor. We used a 2x3 to stir it up and regular paint rollers and paint brushes. It is very thick which is nice to work with, less of a mess.
We have let it...
This is my 4 week old SF. Cutest and loudest out of all my chicks, but feathers are coming in pretty dark. I have also read that most hatchery SF's will be dark even the hens. Not sure yet what this one will be just hoping it's not a roo.
Does anyone have any insight on SF Roo's? Temperments?
You can actually run them either way. It's a personal preference. If it was a larger project (your home, large shed etc) I'd say ridge down, but for the coop lengthwise would work. Lifting it an inch or two on front or rear would help with runoff. If it's easier on you do it. Just fold a piece...

I know they are so funny!! I can't believe how fast they grow! They will be full grown in no time! So adorable when they are fuzzy! My Sussex and Wyandottes are the most curious little trouble makers in there. One actually flew at me this morning and almost got out. Little stinkers
