Calcium coated egss being found in run, not in coop

For the past month, about once per week, I've been finding a calcium coated egg in the run. The only place I ever find these calcium coated eggs is in the run, the eggs being laid in the coop are normal brown eggs. I have 6 girls. I found online that a calcium coated egg is the sign of a...

Who else is waiting for that first egg?

I got my girls (six of them) at 25 weeks old and it took them about 2 weeks to start laying. Last Wednesday was my FIRST egg, and now, already, just shy of one week later, I am getting FOUR a day!!!! When it happens it will happen quickly and it will be like Christmas every day! Good luck to...

    Nipple watering?

Just set up my three gallon nipple waterer (with 4 nipples). As mentioned previously, I ordered it from amazon. The company that made it was called BAFX. I just let my girls into the run and put a little orange marmalade on the nipples. Two girls started pecking at the nipples. Others got...

    Nipple watering?

I just bought a pre-made 3 gallon waterer with nipples from Amazon. It was around $19.00. I could probably make it myself for less money, but it didn't seem worth the aggravation. It should arrive soon! Can't wait to use it. I am going to hang it towards the edge of the run so that I can...

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

First egg!!! So excited! My hens are 25 weeks old. Gladys has been squatting for several days now. She was the first to lay. Another hen is squatting too, so here we go!!! I'm thrilled with the size of this egg. I think it's comparable to a large egg. And it's very well formed with a...

    First rainy night. Not prepared!

Thank you for your replies!! Yes, I did sound rather reactive, didn't I!:/ To answer your questions, I live in New England and I have six 25 week old RI red hybrids. I did my homework regarding everything concerning these hens except thinking through a proper roof to cover a section of the...

    First rainy night. Not prepared!

This is my 9th day as a chicken owner and the first day it has rained. We have a run enclosed with fencing and covered with chicken wire. I covered half of the run with tarp, but realized tonight after it started raining that it's pretty haphazardly done, and pooling in spots. I found some...

Chicken routines? Share your expertise please

I just got my girls a week ago. I have a light rigged in the coop to turn in at 5 am as the sun is coming up. Then I get up shortly thereafter to let them all out. I have the light timed shut off around 7am and then turn back on before dusk until about 8:30pm right now. The chickens...

    Newbie introducing myself!!!

Drumstick Diva - I absolutely agree! We are watching her VERY closely. We are not letting her leave the house unsupervised. And when I do let her out I keep her away from the hens. Completely out of sight of one another. I am trying to keep my girls as "stress free" and safe as I can!!!!
