Using Chicken Poop/bedding in my garden???

I have been told, chicken manure should decompose outside of a garden for at least 3 months to kill any bacteria or toxins before you put it on a garden. I have an outdoor compost bin I put it into, and in the fall add leaves and in the spring will be adding cut grass. So I have to areas side...

Why Do You Use Deep Bedding/Why Do You NOT Use Deep Bedding?

I've heard of this, but I like little bedding that feeds my compost and then I clean the coop out once or twice a week by shoveling it into a bin, I take to compost, as I organically garden.

My Great Dane Puppy Killed my Chicken

When dogs are young, I found it best to take them with me on a leash. My dog also killed a turkey poult when she was young. Putting her on a leash and telling her we don’t hurt our birds and having her see how I work with them, was a big help. In time they will be fine, but consciously train...

Dogs that kill weasels but not chickens?

I have two dogs that I successfully trained to be safe around chickens and turkeys. One is a Great Pyranee who is good at night for he loves to go out on the night at any temperature. His thing is his deep bark, so he scares predators away. My smaller dog is a mur I got from the Amish, she is...

Lethargic Hen - Running Out of Ideas

As a classical homeopath, try to get Carbo veg in a 30 C, put 3 pellets in 8 oz of water and let her drink some. A sip is a dose, you can give it 4X a day. Offer the cup then take it away. Too much will make her worse. So a sip at a time.

    Rooster has lost his voice..why?

I have a rooster who completely lost his voice, he shows me when I go into his coop. I have 7 roosters and he was the Body Guard to Prince, my clear leader of the second generation of chickens on my little farm. So Body Guard's problems started when he hurt his foot climbing on a wood pile, he...
