Sadly the last chick has past away this morning I can only assume it was temperature related or since all the chicks were from same hen a biological defect Since the weather is on a downward trend will wait until spring before attempting to raise another. Clutch. I all a learning curve...

Definitely the temperature The other two have also died before I could adjust the brooder plate so only one left here hoping

I've just read that for quail it can be better to remove one side so it rests at an angle so chick's can find the warmest place

I wondered that it might be too high for them to keep warm But when I found them they were outside the heat plate near the water Possibly the surrounding temperature was too cold or a draft caused their death

Sad to say yhis morning two of the four chicks which hatched on Saturday- sunday found dead this morning the other two chicks are ok On a brighter note on checking the remaining 3 eggs in incubator notice one egg had s crack across it so gently parted it to find a healthy chick alive inside

At what age should chicks be introduced to a full grown quail I normally keep chicks in brooder until 4 to six wks old but unsure if i should put them in with older birds afterwards

As promised they're now in brooder which they managed to get through the mesh so now have placed card around the bottom half to prevent more escaping lol

Will post pictures when a put them into brooder tomorrow

Pleased to say after the recent loss of most of my first brood of quail due to rats (only one survived ) Lucky i had 7 eggs collected which i decided to put in my incubator Today 4 chicks had hatched up to now day18 Fingers crossed others might by tomorrow

Ive used plaster of paris mixed with chocolate powder eith success in the past as once ingested it goes rock hard So killing them

Ive laid down poison and set traps to catch them As in life its a learning curve , i thought the coop was surcured from attack. Plan to use a raised coop at least 3ft off the ground the next time Luckly i had collected seven eggs laid over the past week so put into incubator fingers crossed...
