I had 2 eggs today signifying a second pullet has begun laying! My WPR began about 2 weeks ago and maybe one of my BPRs began her tour today. They came to me on Oct 6th. They are just beautiful.
My chicks are 10 weeks old. I have been including parakeet grit in their food. It is granite and oyster shell. I had read that you don't want to give chicks too much calcium (oyster shell). Do you think that this is suitable for them?
Thanks
EEK! A ROO? Not in town. I paid for pullets so I wouldn't need to make those decisions. The catalog description said the assortment could include
"Rhode Island Red, Speckled Sussex, Australorp, Red Star, Black Star, Buff Orpington, Naked Neck, Salmon Faverolle, Dominique, Barred Plymouth...
COOL! My dark BPR and possible Delaware are the quickest to "get it". So then my barred other chicken with solid yellow legs and a light color bottom may be another BPR? Y'all are so great even though I sent a less than great photo.
Leg color on the black left chicken has some dark- not solid yellow like my possible WPR and BRP. I had hoped she was an Australorp. She is a nice chicken that doesn't mind being handled much. Could the white chicken with darkening feathers on her hackles be a Delaware? Thanks again. I am...
Here is a photo of three of my chickens. One is a WPR to the back- you can see her tail. I am most interested the breed of the black chicken with darkening legs (left)and the white chicken with dark feathers developing around her neck. She also has greenish yellow legs. OK experts what do...
This string has been so helpful. DH is beginning the adaptations. The babies still want brooder light in laundry room. So we are still at least a week from night time launch of the tractor.
Thank you again for encouragement and guidance.
DH is still working on the ventilation. A screened and hinged lexan window on interior wall for light and ventilation is going in during the next couple of days. I was wondering about the effectiveness of soffet vents on the sides near the base of the coop area and kinda above the litter line...
I have an assortment of 6 BEL standard pullets(?) from MPC. They are 4.5 weeks old and are still staying in their brooder at night. We built an A-frame chicken tractor for our urban environment. The footprint of the tractor frame is 6' by 7'. The top and sides are wrapped in hardware cloth...
Does anyone have pics of Delaware adolescents(4 weeks). In my MPC brown egg assortment I got a yellow baby which has developed darker areas. I'll get a pic tomorrow when the sun is out. They are sleeping now. Shh
