    Thnx for the response; I currently give them layer pellets which is 18%, and this past winter i have been mixing some 20% chick crumbles with it. I give my flock of 11 hens and 1 rooster about 2 cups of mixed scratch grains per day, so I'll hold on some of this and try the shelled corn.

    Thnx so much for the feedback. We really never intend to breed the chickens (just want egg layers). We planned all along to remove the roos, when they matured. I was hoping maybe to set up a separate coop for the boys, but only if they can get along and not kill one another.
