    yes chicks need a special starter feed that's small enough for them to ingest. you can find it at your local feed store, it's pretty easy to come by in the chicken section.

    forgot to reply to this- but i have a happy update!! i procrastinated a lot to do anything except put the vinegar in their water, but that seemed to do the trick. She recovered quickly and is now healthy and happy. none of the other hens are showing any symptoms.
