You need a minimum of 6 for a strong flock. Everything they do is the flock as a whole. The Guinea hens are great. They eat mice and small rat's and chase away the adult rat's. They also will eat small snakes and run the others away. Good Luck
If you're having trouble with a hawk you can take a few old CDs tie them to a tree or pen and leave it dangle down so it moves around. Let me know if it works for you as it has worked for me.
I have suggest that you find a few old CDs and hang them around the area of the chickens..Just tie them with a string and let them hang so they can move with the wind. I read this here on this site. I have had a bad problem with wild birds in with my chicken. I did this and it was worked. Good Luck

Use the blue cote and put it on antibiotics and a Epson soak with betadine. Make sure the Epson soak is pretty warm but not hot. After that Blu Cote the wing. It should survive.
