Have any mice or rats gone in the ends where the corrugated roofing lays over the flat end wall? I'm moving to property that has had rats in the past, and while I really like your coop and run, I do NOT want rodents in my chicken domain! But this looks like it would be a really nice way to get...

If my neighbor turns me down, I'll get back to you. I'm looking at renting a room for the next year, so I would not expect my girls back. Between the mes with the back yard and the multiple messes on the roads, I'm done with the Santa Cruz mountains. I've loved it here, but I'm done with it.

I'm in the process of seeing if a neighbor would like them. Once I hand them off, I don't think it's fair to ask for them back. I have no idea when I'll be able to have a back yard again, if ever, and asking someone to babysit my birds on a maybe, I think, is just rude!

Yeah, that's a bit far for 3 hens! It's tough, but the kids are actually glad I'm moving out of the house... Hopefully at some point I'll be able to again have chickens, I've loved having them!

I'm by Santa Cruz. I'll know more about WHEN I want to hand over my girls once I solidify housing. I want my eggs until then.... :) They aren't hand tame, but I have carriers I can put them in and meet up someplace if need be.

I'm going to be losing my home shortly, due to soil conditions affecting my septic and leach field. This hurts like stink. I also need to find a home for my 3 hens from Murray McMurray. They are 2.5 years old. 1 cuckoo Marans, 2 Black Austrolorps. I will be moving into a room or an apartment...

If you make the poop hammock, make SURE the side bars are up to the birds weight. I think I had 1" doweling that I thought was good and solid, but on closer inspection after the first break, it was short lengths that were nicely spliced together. With pretty much NO structural integrity... I...

Looking oh so spotless this day! I need to make many modifications to my coop for one reason or another, but I got this feeder idea off this forum, and it has worked beautifully for me.

I know! I wouldn't BE sifting wood shavings if I had my 'druthers, but my lovely messy birds being what they are, my coop floor is a mix of PDZ and shavings kicked out of the nesting boxes, and giant poops from my girls. I had a poop 'hammock' that they broke, and now they poop directly on the...

I had quarter inch mesh, and it got clogged too fast for me. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to cleaning up the coop floor, and the smaller mesh didn't let anything through, so the wood shavings from the nesting boxes, and the feathers, just sat on top of the wire mesh and blocked the loose PDZ...

I use a dust pan to scoop up the poop and PDZ, and pour it into a large bin, through 1/2" mesh hardware cloth. Works like a charm for me.

Awe, that is too cute. Man and birds... Really a sweet picture! Wish my birds liked people so much!

My local Petsmart had little wading pools, under a foot deep and around 3-4 feet across on sale for $10.99, so I got one! Now I just need to get the stuff to put IN it! Sand, some peatmoss, and, dunno if I can FIND ash anywhere for sale or gift. We don't have a wood burning fireplace, so that...

    Life Change Time.....

Thanks! One thing I was THRILLED to find out last year, after DH died, was that you can take shredables to UPS and they will weigh it, charge you, and you're done with it. They shred it in their industrial shredder! Awesome! So yeah, I had to sort it all, but it wasn't as much total crap as...

    Life Change Time.....

Mom died the 26th of March, weighing in at about 70 pounds. She knew me the Sunday before, smiled and called me stranger! :D Prolonging death isn't something we wanted to do, so I'm glad it's over for her. Poor thing couldn't breathe (emphysema) and couldn't think (dementia) and I'm glad...
