Just an update on this thread. Pearl died this afternoon 😢 Her other leg went this morning and despite my best efforts, she passed away with me by her side. 😔😪

Why is my Pekin Rooster attacking the Silkie hens?

Thank you, they were very interesting and informative reads! Honestly I didn't think there would be any problems as Roo has been on his own for the best part of a month so thought he would welcome the new company, well I suppose he sort of did, but I never expected a chicken to be racist lmao 🤣...

Why is my Pekin Rooster attacking the Silkie hens?

No didn't just chuck them in the coop 😂 I kept the new ones in the crate for around an hour whilst I did some bits and bobs around the garden, and Roo was doing his little dance around them all and showing lots of interest, then I let them all out together closely supervised and he started...

Why is my Pekin Rooster attacking the Silkie hens?

How peculiar!! 🤔 I think in the first instance then I shall get a new coop for the 2 silkies as I really don't want to put them in roo's coop and come out to 2 dead chickens in the morning, and I do think Roo is entirely capable of murder 😬😅

Why is my Pekin Rooster attacking the Silkie hens?

Hello all, I bought 4 new chickens today to add to my existing 2. I bought 2 pekin hens and 2 silkies hens, now Roo who is a Pekin has taken really well to the 2 new Pekin hens, but has been constantly attacking the 2 silkies 😱 to the point I've brought them in the house for the moment whilst I...

What's causing paralysis in my hens foot??

It's okay :) Pearl still isn't showing any signs of improvement, things have been pretty much on a level for around a week or so. She is weighing 580g today but feels VERY boney :( Her comb and face are also quite pale, paler than what has been usual for the past couple weeks. I'm just trying to...

What's causing paralysis in my hens foot??

I really really don't want to lose her, i love her so much and shes so sweet, so if there's any possibility of her recovering I would probably sway more that way rather than enthusing her. I just don't want her to suffer :( I will take the milk away, I just thought it would be good to help her...

What's causing paralysis in my hens foot??

Yes she is eating and drinking fine, I've been giving her 1 pot with the vitamin drink and 1 pot of milk, milk soaked bread, cheese, mealworms, sweetcorn, mixed corn, layers pellets, and bits of anything that I'm cooking with which she wolfs down! No new birds have been added, its just her and...

What's causing paralysis in my hens foot??

Hello all, There's still no improvement in Pearl's leg, she dropped more weight too lowest was 530g about 4 days ago and she has for the past 2 days been 585g. I'm really not sure what to do now, she's had baytril for a week, cortisone jabs and tablets for another week, then vitamin B daily for...

What's causing paralysis in my hens foot??

Hello, Thanks for your reply. She is a bantam- she was a healthy weight for her size at 780g as she really is tiny. I'm not worried about her dying of starvation as she does eat alot lol! She mostly always has a full croup.

What's causing paralysis in my hens foot??

Thanks for your reply. No it's not mareks, we only have 2 chickens, Pearl and Roo. Roo is completely fine and healthy, ruling out any viral infections. There are no marks or visible injuries on her leg whatsoever and her leg is just floppy, toes are straight but do not move. She hasnt yet...

What's causing paralysis in my hens foot??

Hello everyone, For almost 2 weeks now, my hen Pearl has a completely paralysed lower left leg and foot. I've had her to the vets twice already (costing over £70 each time), but they can't be sure what is causing the issue and how to treat it. So far, they have given her a weeks worth of...

    Beginnings of Bumblefoot?

Thank you very much for your reply and advice. They dont actually sleep on the roost and prefer the nestbox. I actually took the roosting bar out today as I'm wondering if she has fallen over on it (I saw her stumble over it to get to her feeder) so I'm thinking that may have caused the bruised...
