    Confirming gender

I actually was getting suspicious because of the tail feathers looking a little downward drooping.

    Confirming gender

Ok, thanks! They have much smaller combs than the other two, so I wasn't sure. Didn't realize they had gender colors for EE. Our only experience is chicks from a hatchery. :)

    Confirming gender

Really? I didn't realize there was gender specific coloring on Easter eggers! I thought all specifics like that kind of flew out the window with being an EE. Good to know!

    Confirming gender

These chicks are 9 wks old and I posted earlier (7 wks) and was told all 4 I have are roos. Two are definitely roos, but I wanted to confirm on these other two before I re-home them (can't have roos in my neighborhood). They're easter eggers. It's only 2 different birds in the images.

    Help with gender? :)

Oh goodness that will be awful. It was such an ordeal to hatch these.. trying to rehome 4 roos sounds awful. 😞 Yes, they're all Easter eggers - I was listing their mother's breed in case that was helpful

    Help with gender? :)

Oh no, my poor daughter is going to be shattered..she sobbed when we rehomed our last roo

    Help with gender? :)

Our chicks are 6 weeks old today and I think I know their genders, but I want opinions. We hatched 4 chicks with one of our broody Orpingtons. They're all Easter eggers bc the roo was an Americans. We believe the chicks' moms are: 1. Beatrix: Plymouth Rock (tan/cream egg) 2. Maple: Easter...

New mama bird with weird skin issue?

Here are some more pictures - she was dusty from dust bathing so we rinsed the area to be able to see it better. She is still wet in these photos. We have two pics of the spot above her tail and one of her from behind - which isn't necessarily an area we were concerned about. Just looks like...

New mama bird with weird skin issue?

I'm trying to find out if something is wrong with our mama bird. She hatched chicks 3 weeks ago today and has been an excellent mama. She used to sleep in the elevated coop, but has been ground level under the coop in a wire crate the last 5 weeks or so. She is an Orpington and is on a 20%...

    Chicken attacking one specific flockmate

I need advice. We have 9 chickens and have had them for 2.5 years. They all grew up together and have had no issues that entire time, very peaceful flock. We went out of town this past Sunday-Wednesday. They were let out for a few hours Sunday morning and were let out Wednesday at 3pm when we...

    Natural breeding thread

Thank you!! This helps ease my mind so much..I kept waffling about bringing them all into the garage, but I'd rather they stay out with all the birds for a smoother and simpler integration

    Natural breeding thread

I don't know if this is the place to ask this - but our broody is sitting on 5 eggs and the first hatched today! We are so excited. However, we are about to have a cold night 😳 if the low temp tomorrow morning is 55, are the hatching chicks and momma ok outside? We haven't been this low in a...

    Natural breeding thread

Thank you so much! This is so comforting to read. We will have 3 days of drizzly and 50's and my daughter read all about broody chickens and is in charge of this process and has been worried about this and none of her books mentioned outside temps, just the typical months that people let...

    Natural breeding thread

Does the outside temp impact eggs when a broody hen is sitting? It's May here and typically 80's and up, but we have had rain and a weird weather drop to 50's and overcast and drizzly. This is very unusual here and I'm unsure if it matters. It's day 8 of her sitting on her eggs and she is doing...

    Letting a broody lay eggs

Thank you so much for your advice about integration! I'll do it exactly as you said. That has been my primary reason for not wanting to separate her into the garage or anything. I want to ease of flock integration from the beginning. Also, I think your idea of using cardboard to block the...
