    Duck discrimination

We raised a White Crested duckling a couple of years ago. We kept it separate until it was fairly large, then introduced it to our little flock, consisting of a Rouen drake, 2 Rouen ducks and one Cayuga duck. From day one the other ducks attacked the Crested, usually trying to pin her to the...

    Metzer Farms

We have bought twice from Metzer. The first time I had to pick up the ducklings from the post office. The next time, we drove to the farm and picked them up in person. They have sexed the birds perfectly each time. Here is a photo from our trip showing 2 Cayugas and 3 Rouens.

7 week old Cayuga looks haggard

Now the wings don't droop, but the tips stick upwards at weird angles. The wings stay like this all the time. Is this a deformity? The other Cayuga looks perfect. 8 1/2 weeks old now. Here are a couple of fresh photos. .

7 week old Cayuga looks haggard

Thanks for your reply. The one duck is a little more presentable now, but her wing tips still hang low often, and some feathers still look wet. The other 4 ducks continue to look picture perfect. I hope this duck is just a late bloomer, and that this will pass.

7 week old Cayuga looks haggard

We are raising 2 Cayuga hens and 3 Rouens (2 hens, 1 drake). They are 7 weeks old. They all just passed their "droopy wing" stage, all but one Cayuga. Her wing tips still hang down, and many of her feathers look wet and unruly. Is she just a late bloomer, or is something wrong? They all...

    Cats? Predators?

My own definition of a feral cat is any cat I find in my backyard.

    Fretting over pre-sexed Rouen Ducklings

Great news! The Rouen drake has revealed himself. His head is turning a pretty iridescent green! I first saw it yesterday when the sun finally came out.

    Fretting over pre-sexed Rouen Ducklings

5 weeks ago we drove down to Metzer Farm to pick up 2 Cayuga and 3 Rouen day-old ducklings. We paid the extra to make sure we got one Rouen drake and the balance all hens. I realize it's early, but I am worried that all of our Rouens are hens. They are changing color, but they all the Rouens...

Hi from the CA central valley!

We are raising 3 Rouens and 2 Cayuga ducks. We had 2 Cayugas and a Welsh Harlequin, but they were all killed by a racoon a couple of years ago. We have built a new enclosure for nighttime safety that we hope is predator-proof. I have used the forum as a resource in the past, so thought I...
