Did you have any problems mixing horned and disbudded goats?

    Dehorning Nigerian Dwarf Goats

Hi all! I am new to owning goats this year and everyone in my herd was disbudded at a young age by the breeders. I’ve found a doe that is lovely, but she wasn’t disbudded. Is it too late to do anything about her tiny horns? I’m not sure it would be safe to have one horned goat. Thoughts?

Help! My first time hatching and one baby has been at the same stage for 12+ hours

This is my first time incubating and hatching eggs. The first baby to pip started last night around 8 PM or so and progress slowly up until about 1 AM when I went to bed. This morning is day 21 and there was a tiny bit more progress, but since then it stayed in the same state. I can see it...

Hidden egg outside for two days, okay to eat?

My first girl just started laying this week! I thought she didn’t lay yesterday, and just found a hidden egg inside of a little hutch I keep their snack in. I didn’t even think she could fit in there! The egg is been in there for at least two days, I’m wondering if it’s OK to eat. The hutch is...

Gorgeous New Rooster! What breed is he?

I adopted this lovely rooster today. He looks like my Easter egger mixed with something. Gorgeous green in his tail feathers with a rainbow sheen in the light. Any idea what kind of mix he might be?

Introducing a new bird to the flock, quarantine help

I saw a gorgeous roost at my local feed store and I’m considering getting him, but all of my babies have come in as chicks so I’m not sure the best way to bring one in. How long should he be quarantined and how far should his area be from the main run while in quarantine? Anything I should look...

New duck and geese mom! What do I need?

Hi all! So far I have chicken, turkey, and quail, and I’ve decided to add geese and ducks to the flock. What do in need to know for setting up their brooder? Is it the same as chickens? How often should they have bath time before they can head out into their run? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

They only had two left. It’s been difficult finding them.

    Turkey Poults not eating?

I brought home two four week old bourbon red babies yesterday and I haven’t seen either of them eat or drink yet. I dipped their beaks and I have a camera on them so I can keep close watch. The larger of the two is very vocal and will chirp nearly all day on and off. I’m worried they are going...

Six Week Old Crossbeak slow growth, bald crop

Hi! This is my six week old EE crossbeak named Chipmunk. She’s been water her mash on her own for about a week and she seems to finally be gaining but it’s still quit slow. The rest of the chicks are twice her size. Tonight at dinner time, I noticed her crop has a bald patch. The skin doesn’t...

    Raising Coturnix Quail in Arizona

I’m in Tucson so a little cooler than Phoenix but not by much. I have a mister up around the chicken run and the quail’s new coop/run. I haven’t seen them pant yet thanks goodness.

    Raising Coturnix Quail in Arizona

I did end up buying them a bigger coop with an attached run and they are much happier!

    Raising Coturnix Quail in Arizona

I have four Coturnix quail that are ready to go into their hutch. I’ve never raised them before and I'm wondering if the hutch can be outside here in southern Arizona or if it needs to be on a covered patio or even inside the house. This photo is the setup I built, but the hutch is easily moved...

    Cross beak?

So far she’s been eating and drinking on her own but I’ll keep a close eye on her. She’s had a rough start but she’s been doing much better since I brought her home.

    Cross beak?

Do you have to do anything special to the feed for her? I’ve read that cup drinkers are better for them. She’s been eating and drinking on her own but I’m going to keep a close eye on her.
