    Official BYC Poll - Which aspect of keeping chickens do you enjoy the most?

    I would choose as my main reason for having backyard chickens is they are very therapeutic for me. They are my reason for getting out of bed each morning....The eggs are great too!

    cheap egg cartons

    TSC by me said the place they were getting their cartons from burnt down so they had to find a new supplier. They used to have the cardboard kind but last week they had the foam ones. They said they are not sure if those will be the kind they will get in again.

    Tractor Supply In Jacksonville NC had them for .29 last week. Not sure how long the sale will be. They are regularly .49-.69 I think?

    Egg storage

    I bring mine in each day and keep them on the kitchen counter until I have time to wash the dirty ones (just water) then I put them in the fridge. They are for eating only at this time. I just bought an incubator but won't attempt to hatch any yet until I can monitor the humidity properly...

    Update on Frankie= She is doing well, her eye is healing nicely. She is back with her hen friends and all getting along fine. Clark will eventually be placed in a new home but for now he is in a nice big coop with a few of his lady friends and all are happy. All is well at Cluckinghen...

    Would raising a Roo from a baby chick make a difference in it's behavior? If he is handled very often while growing up does that make them calmer or more aggressive or makes no difference? It's spring time and there are lots of new baby chicks being hatched!

    Thank you Michael Apple, I didn't realize about the size difference. I will pay attention to that when I choose my next flock. Right now I have 1 brown leghorn, 2 RIR's, 2 buffs & 3 mixed jersey giants. If there is a non aggressive breed of Rooster I'd love to get one

    Thank you forgetful, the bleeding has stopped and she is eating well this morning. Her eye looks terrible but at least it's around the eye and the actual eye is not damaged. She looks like she went 10 rounds with Rocky! I will keep her separated till she heals completely.

    Help me name my 4th chicken!

    My hens names are: Isabella, Rosie, Ruby, Sophia, Sassy, Probie, Petie, Frankie (Francesca), Buffy & Fluffy. Yes a few have male names but it just fits them! LOL I have 6 new baby chicks & only 2 are named so far: Trina & Lily. I need 4 more names!
