Well.. It's been a few months...and I wanted to apologize for overreacting earlier in this post. I was stressed about the situation, and my finances. I shouldn't have reacted like that, I'm sorry, I know you were trying to help. I do love my ducks, but they confound and frustrate me regularly...
Hi, on Friday somebody on a bike aimed full speed at our flock of ducks (they were crossing a bike/walking trail adjacent to our property) and ended up running clean over one our khaki cambell ducks. We've isolated her and her brother(for company-he wants to be with her) in coop the lastcouple...
That's what I've been hoping in the back of my mind regarding the mating season. Also in couple more months the babies should be old enough...so they can stand up for themselves, right? Or maybe draklet should go? I don't know, but thanks for your insight! I think and research and work at it...
We have same problem. We have Lots of ponds/ canal and river brings lots of waterfowl. You need to worry about disease being transferred . We only have a few ducks and don't get them vaccinated, but I think it's something to consider. We do our best to keep them away, bring ours in every...
Hi Thanks! Our pekin has been a real bully since day one. I guess we're all too involved with their social life. I had been trying to get a few more females for a while to satiate his appetite, and take some pressure off momma. so when babies cme along I kept two hoping(tried vent sexing)...
I know, I do feel so bad for him. The story is longer and more complicated than I could write about. I try and make time for them to be together. She's def the head alpha and always has been. even though his hormones are raging, he won't touch her unless she lets him. Her true "mate" ( the...
Long duck story...cut short as best i can muster....we have four ducks. Our only adult drake( and only pekin) is not cohabiting yet with our 2 ducklings.( 2 month old khaki cambells). We are keeping him separated from both mommy (khaki cambell also) and the 2 ducklings. (she hatched and raised...
I think this may be a happy ending! If the duckling is approx same age and size as momma's ducklings. It has been my observation, that ducks,( much like my three year old daughter), cannot count very well. And Maternal instinct usually overrides logical deduction.
I had tried candeling the eggs, but wasn't sure what I was looking at. But a day or two before they hatched, I held one in my hand briefly and actually could feel it kicking. Maybe you will too since its so close.
Hi all! Need advice( again) our khaki cambell hatched 6 sweet little ducklings on apr 4th. We gave away 4 and kept two. We are trying to let the momma raise them . Here's the problem, our two boys ( one being the father) are hell bent on hurting the ducklings. They've been separated but...
For the record, I have a chick waterer and starter pellets in the coop with them, along with two shallow dishes of water...she just won't budge from her nest
Thank you so much for that suggestion! I'm a nervous nelly...so she hatched six eggs total through last night, was up all night watching the action on my baby monitor ! So awsome to watch!! I put in a chick waterer and starter pellets with momma and ducklings, but worried cause momma won't...
