Curious if anyone out there with natural ponds have had issues with wild ducks mingling in your flocks? I went out mid morning to find a pair of mallards swimming around with our Buffs and runners...then they got spooked by me and took off....anything I should be concerned about?!

We have same problem. We have Lots of ponds/ canal and river brings lots of waterfowl. You need to worry about disease being transferred . We only have a few ducks and don't get them vaccinated, but I think it's something to consider. We do our best to keep them away, bring ours in every night, keep our coop clean and have a quarintine plan when/if we see a sick duck. I mean I don't know , it's pretty hard to control every little thing,

Thanks! I was worried about that too...what about breeding???!!! Mine are VERY free range at the moment, we're not on a set schedule at least they dont want to be...so they are usually outside a handful of nights each week....they love it just a little to much! lol.... I am pretty sure I had my vaccinated before shipping out ill have to double check my order though... thanks for the heads up and ill be more watchful!

Now time to grill some bacon, make some french toast and enjoy this beautiful Minnesota Sunday!

I need some help my mallard ducks are on. Day 9 of incubation and I saw veins earlier in the week but not now all I can make out is a black mass. Please help

The same thing happened to us yesterday! That mallard is usually seen hanging out with 4 or 5 other males so we assume it had to have been one raised by our neighbors across the lake. If it was hand raised too do we still have a potential threat of disease?
