I personally don't feed corn or soy because I don't see any nutritional value. Corn is just a filler and the only reason it's fed to any type of animal is to make them fat. I know often people feed it more in the winter as they think it helps them stay warmer. Soy is really not good for people...
They informed you incorrectly. If it's organic, it's non-gmo, too. If it's non-gmo, but not organic, chemicals can, and probably are being used. I use Scratch and Peck feeds which is organic, corn and soy free, and also certified non-gmo. I also live close to a mill that mixes their own...
One of our hens hatched out some baby chicks three weeks ago. We never seperated her while she was sitting, or after the chicks hatched. The first few days she kept them in the coop in a nest box with her, by 1 week old she had them out in the run. We've not had any issues with the other hens...
Thanks for all the responses! I guess chicks really are tougher than we give them credit for. You just hear so much about making sure they are warm enough with a heat lamp when they are chicks, and not moving them outside until they have plenty of feathers, etc. This is the first time we've had...
One of our hens went broody about a month ago and we decided to let her hatch some eggs. One week ago she hatched out 7 baby chicks. We never separated her from the rest of our flock (11 hens total) while she sat, and we still have her and the babies all together with the other hens in the same...
That's actually brown feathering on her chest...not dirt ;o) She's an off white/cream color with black spots and brown feathering on her neck/chest....definitely an interesting looking bird! Can't wait to see what she looks like as an adult.
We just got these girls yesterday. They are 2-3 months old.
This is Mocha...
...and this is Char
..and here is Caramel
...and last but not least, Custard. She is our most unique EE...or at least she's suppose to be an EE. She has the slate legs but non of the other...
Thanks for the replies. I wonder what breed she would be if not an EE?...just a cross breed? She came from the hatchery though (I guess all EE are considered mutts/cross breeds though). She has the slate/green colored legs like the others, but no pea comb/muff/beard. I looked everywhere on-line...
We picked up 4 EE pullets yesterday that are 2-3 months old. I'm starting to doubt whether 1 of them is really a pullet though. We loved it because of the unique colors and while there are no restrictions where we live on not having roosters we would prefer all pullets. The couple we bought them...
