    Broken talon

We cut off the part that was hanging and there was no bleeding at all. We used iodine and neosporin but the dressing won't stay on. We have her in a separate brooder with a towel on the floor. I'm not sure we will be able to keep dressing on it

    Broken talon

I have a 3-4 week old chic that has a talon that is either hanging by the bone or a tendon. Not sure what to do. I have separated her from the rest but not sure where to go from there

    Heat lamp in coop?

I went ahead and put them in the coop with a heat lamp. Temp is holding about 77 In the coop right now but its supposed to get to 44 over night. I guess I would rather be safe than sorry. After tonight they shouldn't need it any time soon. Just out of curiosity, have either of you found a way to...

    Heat lamp in coop?

My chicks are right at 5 weeks old and I put them in the coop today for the first time. I want to leave them there overnight from now on but I'm concerned about the temp tonight. It is going to get to 46 over night but will warm back up to mid 70s tomorrow. Should I run a heat lamp? I would have...

    Chicken to coop

Do you have an opinion on heat lamps in coops? We are building a chicken tractor and considering wiring for heat lamp, but our temperatures seem mild in the winter compared to the rest of the country.

    Chicken to coop

I have two Rhode Island reds, two black sex links, and one auracana. They are a little over a week old. I'm wondering when I can get them to the coop. I'm going out of town in four weeks and would like to have them out by then. I live in East Tennessee. Highs in 80's and lows in upper 50's and...

    Unresponsive chick

I have a chick that I am currently working with that had/has similar issues. I was told by our local vet that specializes in farm animals to try oxytetracycline. It is an antibiotic that will help get any infection out. Giving that to her in her water along with save a chick electrolytes. They...

    Baby chick probs....need help!

As of this morning, she is still alive, but still will not drink on her own and is not eating. She seems to be opening her eyes a little more, but she still seems a bit unstable. I've had to continue to clean her vent area and have applied Vaseline to help. I really don't know what else to do at...

    Baby chick probs....need help!

I got baby chicks yesterday from local coop. One of my chicks will barely open her eyes and seems unstable walking and standing. She has yet to eat and will only drink if I dip her beak into the water. I am using electrolytes in water. I've separated her from the other chicks. I'm not sure if...
