Our chicks from Meyer were mailed yesterday using express mail. The PO says they did not come on today's truck. Can they live another day without food/water?
We have had five hens for just over four years (two Australorps, two BRs and one Polish). Last week one of the Australorps went broody. We would take her out of the coop each morning to try keep her out of the boxes to try to break her broodyness. Three days after she went broody I went to...
We had two hens sit on the same eggs. They would move the eggs around, but they seemed ok with sharing. When the chicks hatched it was nice for there to be two mamas because one could take a break and go eat in the yard while the other guarded the chicks.
To train your dog, get some broody chickens with chicks, then hold your dog down near the broody chickens, let the chickens out and let the attack from the broody hens begin. Make sure to keep the dog restrained. All the pecking should give your dog a healthy respect of the chickens. A broody...
My husband and I kept our six chicks in one of our bathrooms until they were big enough to go out to the coop/run. We'd take them out of the brooder and let them run around the bathroom while we sat there and gave them treats. We did this many times a day. That way they came up to us on their...
We have six hens. One went broody a few weeks ago (BA). We got 8 fertile eggs for her to sit on. Now one of the other hens(BR) has kicked her out of the nest box and is sitting on the eggs. The BA is now sitting just outside of the next box with no eggs under her.
What should we do...
How hot is really hot? I'm in NC and our polish chicks did ok with our hot summer last year. We put a fan out for them and wet the ground in their pen several times a day when it was 99-100 degrees for a few days straight. In OH they should be ok as long as they have shade and good airflow.
One of our hens went broody and someone gave us nine fertilized eggs for her to sit on. Today three of them were out of the nest box. Are there too many in there for her to sit on? How many do they usually sit on?
Also, our other hens have slowed production since she went broody. We were...
I have a black Australop hen that has gone broody and we have not fertilized eggs. I take all the eggs out of the box and she still sits. We even kicked her out of the hen house and she will just sit on the ground. Not sure if we should put fertilized eggs under her or just wait it out.
