    cannabalism in chicks

Just had my first issue with this. Had the back side bloody by the time I seen it. Put Prid salve ( Best stuff in the world) on the wound and let set for and hour. Then I grabbed the vapor rub and smeared up its feathers and where they had pulled them out. put it back in the coop and they ran at...

    Little bit of old school.

Most of what I know about chickens, came from my grand parents. Gramps was born in a wagon coming from Tennessee and granny was raised on a reservation in Oklahoma, and with 9 kids they raised every thing they ate. Their chickens got all the kitchen scraps except meat or bone, along with what...

With the cost of food and every thing else through the roof, cheaper is the way to go. I live what my friends call "Urban AMish" LOL! But my goal is a total bill out go of 200 a month, I am down to 350 so I am almost there.

Does anyone know what the best bedding for 1 day old chicks is?

I use newspaper the first 5 days and then pine shavings. I change the newspaper 2xs a day, only reason I use paper is it is easier ( I think) for them to start out eating, I always sprinkle a little starter around the feeder.

Do you ever feel like calling it a day? *Just caught a dog*

Talked to the Amish man who lives down the road, his wife boils Cayenne pepper, onion, and jalapeno peppers in water. She lets it cool, strains it and puts it in a spray bottle, she sprays around the coop every day or so. Say's it works good.
