    Silkie thread!

I love love love my silkies! They are beautiful, calm, and enjoy my company. I don't show them. I just enjoy watching their antics.

    Sexing silkies!

Based on my limited experience, I think the white one is a girl based on its hunched posture, small comb, and more rounded crest. I think the brown one is a boy since the crest feathers are heading straight back, it's posture stands upright and its comb appears kind of large. Anyone else?

    Sexing silkies!

Hi. Thank you for the feedback. Maybe I'm getting the hang of this.

    Silkie thread!

I will weigh in, although I'm sure others have more experience. I think it's a pullet given the nice full crest and hunched posture. What you said about size also makes me think so. Would love to see others' replies.

    Pecking order?

Since Bella won't let the two youngsters inside the enclosure and it's going to be on the cooker side tonight I decided to bring the two inside tonight. Are they losing ground by my doing this? Should I have placed a pet carrier in there for cover?

    Pecking order?

I have the same situation. I adopted all four of my silkies from separate places within a week. They have been foraging together for two weeks. Bella (1 yr old) has established herself as alpha, then Willow (2 yrs old) , but Maizy (2 mths old) and Lucy (5 weeks old) are getting chased around...

Converting call duck house to Silkie house

I adopted all my silkies from different people within the same week. They are still working out pecking order. I need to protect the two mint and the one month old until they get a little older, I think, but need your advice on this. I have been socializing everyone during the day when they are...

    2 month old paint silkie

Your splash hen is beautiful! I have one just like her. Her name is Williw and she's so sweet. I just adopted her a couple weeks ago. She's retired from breeding at two years old. I love her dearly.

    2 month old paint silkie

That's what I'm hoping for. Can't decide on Maizy or Marshmallow for a name. Which would you pick? Or other ideas?

Hi. The comb is black and smooth. Wattles are not distended, but purplish/reddish in color. Legs are skinny, feet small.

    Hawk Fright!

Oh, and for the last 45 minutes while making the purring sound the babies are under her and haven't moved at all.

    Hawk Fright!

Some of you may have seen my post already about adopting a mother with her four chicks. I have her in the portable pen during the day set in the landscaping where she can dirt bathe and dig to her heart's content. She is on the partially secluded side of my deck and I've placed my swing about 10...

    Advice, please.

This morning she made her babies get behind her when I brought food and water. I sat next to her and quietly talked to her. After maybe ten minutes she relaxed and let the babies come to eat with her. They ate and now she's sitting with them while I'm sitting here. I hope she's getting...
